Impromptu Lagoon

We had an all of a sudden lets pack and go to Utah kinda weekend. My in-laws talked about it but never really confirmed that we are going until the day before we were leaving so it was kinda hectic.

So Friday after Mavericks work, we loaded up and headed to Oakley so that we can get up and leave bright and early on Saturday to spend the day at Lagoon.

We got there around noon and I was disappointed a little coz I wanted to arrive early so we can ride a lot of rides without the big long lines. To our surprise, the lines were fairly small. Longest wait time was about 20 mins which is GREAT!

Anyways, long story short, we had a GREAT day! Kids loved being spoiled by grandma and grandpa, Mav and I got to ride the big roller coasters without worrying about the kids, lines were short, sun was shining, brought plenty of food and everyone enjoyed themselves.

Hy bawling his eyes out

He wasnt allowed to go on the bumper cars with us and he was so sad...
I couldnt take any pictures in the swimming pool area coz we left the camera inside a locker. And we didnt have any photos of the big rides coz well, we were riding them and i dont think bringing a camera in a roller coaster is a good idea.

Two lessons learned:

• Hyrum does NOT like rides. Halia was more excited, braver and rode more rides than Hyrum did. What a surprise!

• My days of endless roller coaster riding fun is limited. I actually blacked out a couple of times and got really close to loosing my lunch on a few occasions. I am terribly sad about this. Me thinks its my deaf ear. Dang you deaf ear!

Thank you to Grandma and Grandpa for treating us to a wonderful weekend!

Button Gear

So Maverick's lovely grandpa gave everyone one of these.

He said to put in out pocket so whenever we're feeling lazy or unmotivated, we can reach in our pocket and remember to put our BUTT-ON GEAR!

Well this little thing got lost in an instant...

And I recently found it and it reminded me to get my butt on gear with this blog and my journal writing. Then the our home teachers message was about journal writing. So I then got another nudge to remind me to just do it already.

Writing in journals is something that I used to do regularly. I enjoy looking through the things that I have written and reminiscing the past. Good and bad. I think one of the best things about it is that my kids will one day be able to read them and learn from them. They will see my true feelings about the world we live in and how I survived through all the trials that comes with it.

So here I am, once again, rededicating myself to recording all the wonderful, scary, exciting, ambitious, crazy things that happens in my life.

Just gotta get my BUTTON GEAR!!!

18 months - No. 2

Well, whaddya know! Little Miss Destructonator has made it to 18 months!!!

Although I think that it is more appropriate to say that Maverick and I has made it through 18 months with our insanity (somewhat) in tact.

She now weighs in at 24.5 lbs and is 32.5" tall. Right in the average mark.

When we found out that we were going to have a girl we knew that we were in for trouble. And holy heck! This girl sure lives up to expectations!!!
She is energetic, sassy, stubborn and soooo much trouble! All disguised by a super pretty, super cute appearance. So don't be fooled. You've been warned! The real reason why she's cute is so that she can get away with all the trouble that she gets into.
Ok, I guess she's not ALWAYS trouble (maybe just 80% of the time), she can also be quite sweet and extremely funny. I enjoy getting my Heeya cuddles specially the just woken up ones. She has a way of finding a perfect spot in your lap (or arm or tummy or face) even if it means moving you to fit her needs.

She is VERY friendly and says hi to every single person that we go past by anywhere.

She loves to share. If you ask her nicely, she will willingly share whatever it is that she has. Even the half chewed candy in her mouth.
These two are quite the partners, yet, quite the enemies! They LOVE each other and play together so nicely ... UNTIL ... one decides to hit, or get annoyed, or have had enough ... then its World War Mitton House!!!

Just like big bro, Halia's favorite place is outdoors. Truly following in Hyrum's footsteps, she loves to play with sticks, rocks, mud and I honestly always find them hunched over and observing (bothering/smooshing) bugs or insects.

I think that it is crazy how gender roles automatically comes to play. Because even if my tough little lady can definitely hold her own in the playground (thanks to Hy!), she can also be quite gentle. Her absolute favorite toy is her baby doll. She loves to wrap the baby up in a blanket and rock it while making shushing sounds. She puts the baby in a toy stroller with a sippy cup and pushes it around so proudly. So even if all she really plays with are cars and swords with Hyrum, natural nurturing tendencies comes out when she plays by herself. Which is really fun to watch.
Her other favorite toys are her pull along buzzy bee, blocks, stuffed toys, balls and she absolutely LOVES books!

Back during childless days, I told Maverick that we need to have at least one girl so that I can have my dancer. Well my wish may come true with this one because she is quite the performer. If there's a song playing (esp Gangnam Style) guarantee she will start grooving to it. In the house, car, store, or from a TV commercial, during a parade, while eating, wherever it is, when the music goes on she will for sure do her funny little groove.
At 18 months, Halia is quite a chatter box. Hyrum talked a lot at this age, but my heck, Halia just babbles ALL DAY LONG!!! Most of the time I/we can't really understand what she is saying but once in a while we'll catch on and realize that particular sounds actually mean something. She's getting a lot better at copying words and she even has some small sentences like daddy at work (daddya wok), peekaboo I see you (pitabo ah she yaw),  baby/daddy/mommy/Hyrum where are you (bibi/daddy/mommy/hyra we ah ooo), I don't know (ah no no), open the door (opetaw ba dow), mommy watch (mommy wash), did u see that (she dat), here you go (eh gow), drink of water/milk please (dink wawa/moke peez), eww sticky poopy (ewwee ticky poopy), and love you (wang yuuu).

We are quite in love with our Heeya Mia. Our lives are definitely more exciting with our crazy strong-willed energizer bunny.
She is one WILD child but we wouldn't want it any other way!

The Invisible Mother

Sometimes I get in a RUT...

Like an I feel sorry for myself rut...

A got to, have to, NEED to do something else with my life kinda rut...

An I'm soooo effin lazy kinda rut...

An I didnt write hundreds of pages of essays, lost countless hours of sleep prepping for tests, paid thousands of dollars for a degree so that I can sit at home and sing my ABC's all day kinda rut...

I'm sure you get the point...

Anyways, I was feeling like this for the past few days.
It has been a hard process for me to adjust to my role as a full-time mother and most days I am absolutely THRILLED that I can stay at home and be their main caregiver. But, since we just bought a house and expenses have been higher than usual, I have been feeling pretty useless not being able to contribute when I know that I can get a pretty good paying job...

Then, I came across this article tonight.

AND, I am, yet again, humbled and brought back to my senses of why I do what I do...

Why I practice my hard-earned Bachelors Degree by writing ABC's and counting to 10...

Why I take out my $30 a piece oil paintbrushes for dollar store paints...

Why I pass up big bucks to play with blocks and kiss boo boos...

"It all began to make sense, the blank stares, the lack of response, the way one of the kids will walk into the room while I’m on the phone and ask to be taken to the store. Inside I’m thinking, ‘Can’t you see I’m on the phone?’
Obviously not; no one can see if I’m on the phone, or cooking, or sweeping the floor, or even standing on my head in the corner, because no one can see me at all. I’m invisible. The invisible Mom. Some days I am only a pair of hands, nothing more! Can you fix this? Can you tie this? Can you open this??
Some days I’m not a pair of hands; I’m not even a human being. I’m a clock to ask, ‘What time is it?’ I’m a satellite guide to answer, ‘What number is the Disney Channel?’ I’m a car to order, ‘Right around 5:30, please.’
Some days I’m a crystal ball; ‘Where’s my other sock? Where’s my phone?, What’s for dinner?’
I was certain that these were the hands that once held books and the eyes that studied history, music and literature -but now, they had disappeared into the peanut butter, never to be seen again. She’s going, she’s going, and she’s gone!
One night, a group of us were having dinner, celebrating the return of a friend from England . She had just gotten back from a fabulous trip, and she was going on and on about the hotel she stayed in. I was sitting there, looking around at the others all put together so well. It was hard not to compare and feel sorry for myself. I was feeling pretty pathetic, when she turned to me with a beautifully wrapped package, and said, ‘I brought you this.’ It was a book on the great cathedrals of Europe. I wasn’t exactly sure why she’d given it to me until I read her inscription: ‘With admiration for the greatness of what you are building when no one sees.’
In the days ahead I would read – no, devour – the book. And I would discover what would become for me, four life-changing truths, after which I could pattern my work: 1) No one can say who built the great cathedrals – we have no record of their names. 2) These builders gave their whole lives for a work they would never see finished. 3) They made great sacrifices and expected no credit. 4) The passion of their building was fueled by their faith that the eyes of God saw everything.
A story of legend in the book told of a rich man who came to visit the cathedral while it was being built, and he saw a workman carving a tiny bird on the inside of a beam. He was puzzled and asked the man, ‘Why are you spending so much time carving that bird into a beam that will be covered by the roof, No one will ever see it And the workman replied, ‘Because God sees.’
I closed the book, feeling the missing piece fall into place. It was Almost as if I heard God whispering to me, ‘I see you. I see the sacrifices you make every day, even when no one around you does.
No act of kindness you’ve done, no sequin you’ve sewn on, no cupcake you’ve baked, no Cub Scout meeting, no last minute errand is too small for me to notice and smile over. You are building a great cathedral, but you can’t see right now what it will become.
I keep the right perspective when I see myself as a great builder. As one of the people who show up at a job that they will never see finished, to work on something that their name will never be on. The writer of the book went so far as to say that no cathedrals could ever be built in our lifetime because there are so few people willing to sacrifice to that degree.
When I really think about it, I don’t want my son to tell the friend he’s bringing home from college for Thanksgiving, ‘My Mom gets up at 4 in the morning and bakes homemade pies, and then she hand bastes a turkey for 3 hours and presses all the linens for the table.’ That would mean I’d built a monument to myself. I just want him to want to come home. And then, if there is anything more to say to his friend, he’d say, ‘You’re gonna love it there…’
As mothers, we are building great cathedrals. We cannot be seen if we’re doing it right. And one day, it is very possible that the world will marvel, not only at what we have built, but at the beauty that has been added to the world by the sacrifices of invisible mothers.

Rome wasn't built in a day...
I'm sure people who built Rome had RUTTEN days too (you see what I did there...hahaha)
And I bet they had great mothers!

I love my kids and it is my eternal duty to be their mother.
To teach them how to become great people who will someday achieve GREATNESS!!!

Sure it is very hard to see that now...

But i'll make sure it happens.

Big Step

Between HGTV, Pinterest and library books, I've been educating myself on how to DIY renovate a house. Wondering why?

That right people!
We just bought our first house!!!

It is quite a fixer upper because its literally 100 years old. But Mav and I fell in love with it BECAUSE of its oldness. We love the feeling of it, we love the character and we especially love that the price is sooo right!!!

It's all pretty exciting, yet very VERY nerve wracking!
It has 3 bedrooms, 1 bathroom, a beautiful dining and living room, fenced in backyard and a long awaited laundry room. The kitchen and bathroom needs some serious work and the carpet has seen better days so we will start the renovations with those three first.
Living room. Doors on the side leading to the dining area.
Dining room with bay window leading into the kitchen
It's all going so fast coz we just randomly decided to see if we can get approved for a home loan one day then next minute WAHHBAMMM! we're singing papers!!!

So maybe this time we will be able to stay in one place for longer than 6 months.

Since leaving Hawaii in April 2011 we will have moved 4 times! That's crazy! 2 of those moves the kids and I were in New Zealand and Mav moved everything by himself and the other one I was 8 months pregnant. This next one will be the only 'normal' move that we will be doing.

Not that anything we do is particularly normal...

So new adventures up ahead for us. I feel so adult!!!

Terrible Two No More

Well where do I start...

I want to remember sooo many things about my Hyrum right now. Every moment is an adventure with this little big boy.
He is a sweetheart and a little terror all bundled up into one crazy non-stop cuddly child of God

I know down the road I will be looking back at this stage and I will miss it a lot!

He always amazes me with things that he learns from his surroundings. He is super smart! He can spell his name, count to 20, distinguish left and right, has 5 books completely memorized, knows a lot of songs including 3 Tagalog and 1 Japanese among other things.

He can be quite rough with other kids (esp Halia) but he can also be pretty sweet. I love watching him interact with other kids and listening in on their little conversations.

Toddler Lab is great! In fact, it is amazing!!! He has made some friends that's he constantly talks about. Especially his girlfriend Ila. Her mom talked to me and she said that Ila got Legos for Christmas and it had a boy Lego with black hair and she named that Lego Hyrum. Owww! Young love!!! At the end of each class they have to hug and kiss each other goodbye.

This is his girlfriend, Ila
Besides a girlfriend, he has loved his two hours every Tuesdays and Thursdays being able to play with kids his age. The teachers used to need to pry him out of from clinging on to me but now he goes freely all by himself. And he enjoys it! They play, sing song, play, dance, play, eat snacks, play, get messy, play, go outside, play and play and play.

I also don't mind my two hours twice a week of only having one child. I used to go back home and try and do things there but now I do errands instead.

He is fully (even night time) potty trained and has been for a few months now. We still find that he has climbed into our bed most mornings. He is still very much obsessed with airplane, helicopters and rockets. Still in love with being outdoors and still as energetic as ever, jumping off anything that he can jump off of and does flips and somersault on the couch or bed.

For his birthday, we woke him up with a bunch of balloon which he LOVED! Then I had to babysit my nieces so we couldn't really do much.
We went out to Chili's for dinner when Maverick got home from work. Hyrum got a (free) yummy chocolate volcano dessert which he happily shared with everyone. After dinner we went to ShopKo so he can buy something with the money that grandma and grandpa gave him. I was directing him to get something useful like shoes or clothes BUT I failed. He chose a PlayDoh dentist toy which I am actually ok with. Then we ended the day by opening (and playing with) all of his presents.

The next day, we drop Halia off at my sis n bro in-laws house so that Hyrum, Maverick and I can go to the movie theater. It was Hyrums first time in a movie theatre and he was super super excited.
We watched Wreck-it-Ralph which is a highly recommended movie and Hyrum was LOLing, making statements and asking questions all throughout. I think it's safe to say that he LOVED it!!!

So on birthdays starting from age 3, we decided that we will do a birthday interview. So here is Hyrums 3rd birthday interview:

We love you Hyrum bud!
To infinity and BEYOND!!!

And with that, the terrible twos have ceased and on to tantrum threes we go!

SHE is ONE!

And alas, my once tiny timid little angel has been in this world now for a whole year!

Time sure flies!

And I am so grateful that I got to witnessing yet another one of Gods amazing miracle grow before my very eyes. Even if my once timid (and I was very hopeful that she stayed that way) turn into a rambunctious very energetic little rascal full of attitude.
She now weighs 21.8lbs and is 30" tall. Slightly smaller measurements than Hyrum was but it's ok coz she is growing healthy and doing well in all aspects.
Look at that cheeky smirk.
It's crazy how personality shows at such an early age. We know for sure that this one is going to be trouble. So young and already so stubborn.
My mum would probly say that she just got it from me.

She is a force to be reckoned with. If there is something that she wants and can't or we won't give it to her, she will shrill and wail and ohmy heck she will let it be known that she is NOT happy!

We have to be extra alert now coz she is literally everywhere! She is a climber baby and climbs on anything and everything that is climbable.

She started walking mid November but didn't prefer it until beginning of December, then there was no turning back. She loves her new found freedom and utilizes it especially while trying to keep up with Hyrum.

She can sign milk, food, more, please, all done and bath but only do it when the words are mentioned, not on her own accord yet.

She says 'didiii' for daddy and a loud stern 'MA!' to call me. Or if I say "say mama" she says "papa". Really not fair! We don't know if there's a specific call for Hyrum yet but she usually gets his attention by slapping him.

She is quite the chatterbox. We don't understand a lot anything of what she says but it still very cute sounds and we like to make up words based on her sounds. But she 'talks' a lot and right to our faces too like we really understand. I'm sure she will be talking our ear off sooner or later. She also likes to sing and makes the funniest facials while belting it out.

So it's been a year...

Rushing out the door to go to the emergency room in the dead of the night. Then have her born 26 minutes after getting admitted.

Being handed a precious tiny 5lbs 15oz little miracle was just as breathtaking the second time around.

Just as unbelievable that I (and I guess Maverick too) can make something so perfect.

It's been a tough year, yet a great year! My 'Heeya Mia' has definitely made it a lot more exciting, a lot more stressful, a lot more harder yet a lot more worth it!

To my beautiful bebe girl,

Happy happy FIRST birthday!

Only one year in our lives and you have already given us so much happiness, so much excitement, and so much blessings.

I love you. And will always love you to the moon and back times infinity.
